Well, technically it’s Spring time…although Winter seems to be sticking around being annoying. But someday soon, one would hope, it will be nice enough to be outside, hear the birds sing, and breathe in the fresh air. And what goes with fresh air? Beer of course. So where are the best places to breathe and get a beer at the same time? Excellent question….I’ll try to give some great ideas of where to go, sit on a patio, and have a refreshing beer. Because is there anything better in life than that?

First up we have the Broad Ripple Brewpub. This is Indiana’s first brewpub and is one of the oldest operating breweries in Indianapolis. Plus, it has a very large outdoor cafe. During the spring and summer bring your dog over from the Monon Trail and sip on a beer while you play a game of bags.

If you’re in the mood for some nice outdoor atmosphere, a burger, and a beer, Burgerhaus is just the place. This place is famous for their burgers, but they have great patios too. The one thing they don’t have is their own beers. They do carry a wide variety of craft beers, so that kinda makes up for it. They have three locations in Indiana, Valparaiso, Indianapolis, and Schererville. Come chomp it up, drink it up, and soak it up.

Now, back to places that do brew their own beer! Next is Flat12 Bierwerks. Their Indianapolis location has a nice patio with a firepit to enjoy on a lovely evening. And their “Kentuckinana” location has a very nice outdoor deck where you can chill and have some of their delicious beer.

If you really want to get cozy by the fire, hit up Scotty’s Brewhouse in downtown Indianapolis. They have couches and lots of space for lounging around a fire. Sadly, most of the other locations don’t have a lot of outdoor seating. Noblesville, Southport Rd, and 96th Street all have a little outdoor fun, but if you want a good outdoor experience you should head downtown. (Just like the song).

Also around the Indy area in Carmel hit up Union Brewing’s beer garden. They have live music, and a firepit to enjoy while you watch the crazy people running and biking on the Monon Trail. Of course if you are one of those crazy people, you too, are welcome to come in and cool off with nice cold Union beer.

If you’re looking for a good patio down in the southern part of the state, hit up Upland Brewery’s Westside Beer Bar. They have a great beer garden. With lanterns, firepits, and beer, what else could you ask for in an outdoor patio setting?

Find yourself in northern Indiana? Check out Wildrose Brewing Company in Griffith Indiana. They have new patio seating which can accommodate many more guests on a fine spring or summer day.

Also in Griffith is New Oberpfalz Brewing, a Bavarian-themed brewery that has a nice  German feeling to it’s beer garden. Located downtown, it’s an easy place to walk right up to and have a fun outdoor experience usually found in Germany. Das Beer Please!

So I’ve listed quite a few places, but I’m sure I missed some. So chime in and let me know where and what I missed so I can check them out!
