Okto-Beer-Fest Event Announced for Friendship Botanic Gardens in Michigan City

oktoOn the 16th of October, the Friendship Botanic Gardens in Michigan City, Indiana will hold their inaugural Okto-Beer-Fest from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m. This will be the first ever beer festival to take place at the gardens.

Friendship Botanic Gardens puts on several philanthropic events throughout the year, with Okto-Beer-Fest being the latest.

“Okto-Beer-Fest is kind of the year-end fundraiser event that we will have,” said Rubia Jasinevicius, Friendship Botanic Garden’s Board Member and Event Coordinator, while discussing the purpose behind the first-year event.

Over 15 breweries, most from the Michiana region, will be on hand distributing unlimited 3 oz. samples of their beers. You will have a chance to try some old favorites, while also getting your hands on this year’s batch of Oktoberfest beer from several breweries. Jasinevicius shared that Burn’em Brewing, Greenbush Brewing, Roundbarn Brewing and Shoreline Brewing are just a few of the big names who will be pouring at the event.

Along with the unlimited samples of beer, you will be able to enjoy the musical acts of The Crawpuppies and Matt Gabriel throughout the day. And when your stomach starts growling, there will have several food trucks to choose from: The Green Machine, South Shore Ovenworks, and Redamak’s.

Tickets are available for purchase via the Friendship Botanic Gardens’ website. 100 VIP tickets have been made available for $60 apiece, while general admission tickets are $50. Designated Drivers can purchase tickets for $10.

A VIP ticket will get you into Okto-Beer-Fest an hour early (12 p.m.), along with a t-shirt to commemorate your day. No VIP beers will be on tap, but with only 100 attendees allowed in during the first hour, the lines will be short and you will have more time to check out the gardens.

Friendship Botanic Gardens, originally called International Friendship Gardens, has been a mainstay in Michigan City since 1936. It’s always been a place for people to visit and reflect on its beauty. Over the past couple years, the Board of Directors and the garden’s dedicated volunteers have raised money to revitalize and renovate the gardens. All proceeds from Okto-Beer-Fest will be used to do just that.

“What we want to do is open up the gardens; have it, in a sense, to contribute back to the community,” said Jasinevicius. We are a safe harbor for children after school, it’s a place for respite, and it’s a place for beauty. It’s in a sense a boutique garden. What we are trying to do is just leave a legacy for the community.”
