Kentuckiana will soon have a new cidery to count among their growing craft beverage scene.

CIDEways, a cidery and restaurant, is set to open this summer in New Albany, owner and founder Matt McMahan told the Courier-Journal in a recent story.

Craft cider brands have not experienced the same growth they were used to in recent years, reported CNBC back in November, mostly due to people fond of big name brands like Woodchuck and Angry Orchard willing to experiment more with flavored malt beverages (aka alcoholic sodas). Still, craft brewers think there’s plenty of room for growth as locals continue to crave locally made beverages.

McMahan, the owner of two Big Four Burgers + Beers locations in southern Indiana, thinks New Albany is the perfect locale for this new venture.

“I just think it’s something so new. There’s just nothing like it,” he told the Courier-Journal.

McMahan himself says he’s more of a cider fan than a craft beer fan, and that he expects to travel to Indianapolis’ New Day Craft Meadery & Cidery to seek their advice on creating a unique experience with craft ciders everyone can enjoy.

He says the ultimate goal is to take CIDEways to a production level where they can bottle and can, but for know he’s focused on nailing down the cider as well as a west coast-inspired menu.
