5 Great ‘Year Round’ Indiana IPAs

jeremy-flickBy Jeremy Flick for Indiana On Tap

National IPA Day has come and gone. But with this recent heat, it still feels like Aug. 4, so why not keep celebrating the refreshing beer that is an India Pale Ale?

After all, who doesn’t love a glass of hoppy goodness, maybe with grapefruit zest thrown in, to cool off in the summer heat?

Below are 5 of my favorite Indiana IPAs to enjoy on a fall day that feels just as hot as summer:

  1. Rail Splitter – Triton Brewing

While Rail Splitter only sits at 70 IBU, it hits you just hard enough with a respectable 7% ABV. With its hoppy goodness and subtle flavor profile, you’ll have no problem drinking one or two glasses of this IPA. Plus, you can find this everywhere, both on tap and in bottles across the state.

  1. Dragonfly – Upland Brewing Co.

Dragonfly isn’t an IPA that will blow you out of the water, but it is consistently good and easily accessible. If you want a reliable IPA flavor with a lower ABV (6.7%) and IBU (65), then you definitely should get a hold of Upland’s standard IPA.

  1. Centennial Martyr Double IPA – Thr3e Wise Men

Centennial Martyr is a citrusy delight with 92 IBU and an 8% ABV. It’s a boozy Double IPA that pairs well with whatever is cooking on the grill while you’re playing cornhole with your family. This one you can get only at a Thr3e Wise Men or Scotty’s Brewhouse, so dust off that growler and get it filled!

  1. Dreadnaught – Three Floyds Brewing Co.

With an IBU of 100, the Dreadnaught IPA packs a massive punch of hops with super citrus aroma and malty body. But this bad boy has an impressive ABV of 9.5%, which means you should enjoy every sip responsibly.

  1. Soul Ride – Fountain Square Brewery

While Soul Ride is notably less hoppy than other IPAs—it only rates at 55 IBU—it is relatively citrusy, making it a crisp, zesty beer perfect for summer. You can find this in most stores around town, but nothing beats a fresh pint from the brewery itself.

Runners Up/ Hard to Find:

Thai.p.a. – Bare Hands Brewery

Arctic Panzer Wolf – Three Floyds Brewing Co.

Saucy Intruder Rye IPA – Black Acre Brewing

Hop Supremacy IPA, Hop Extremacy DIPA, and Hop Opulancy Triple IPA – Deviate Brewing

Harbrew DIPA – Books & Brews
