20 Jan 1,110 New Brewery Permits Issued in US in 2016, Total Number Now at Record High
For three years in a row, the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau has issued more than 1,000 new brewery permits. This now brings the total number of US breweries to a staggering and record high of 7,190 as of the end of 2016.
The exact number of new permits issues was 1,110, which was slightly less than the 1,142 issued in 2015. All of this continues to reiterate the story that new breweries continue to find growth opportunities in multiple types of markets. At the same time, 2017 is gearing up to be the most competitive year yet for craft beer consumer mindshare.
